Do you have to be an acupuncturist to join MAAOM?

Our voting members are Licensed Acupuncturists but individuals and businesses may show your support and join us. Please ask us for membership information.

Since other health care practitioners do acupuncture, why would I go to a licensed acupuncturist?

In Maine, your best acupuncture care is performed by a Licensed Acupuncturist because they have the extensive education devoted exclusively to both ancient and modern practices of Oriental Medicine. Your licensed acupuncturist will perform services tailored to you as an individual. You will be evaluated and treated based on your own unique condition.

Where do acupuncturists learn Oriental Medicine?

There are many schools in the United States where students earn Masters Degrees, PhD's and Clinical Doctorate Degrees in Oriental Medicine. Also, many Americans choose to go abroad to for their graduate education in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture. If you are interested in studying this vibrant ancient art, you will find you have very interesting choices.

Does insurance cover acupuncture treatments?

Many insurance policies do cover acupuncture and some policies will identify which specific conditions for a policy's coverage. Ask your insurance agent for your specific situation. You will find many acupuncturists also accept payment with credit cards and health savings plans.
